A man goes in search of his beloved at sea, remembering the first time he met her. He realizes that her presence still lingers, and that she is helping him discern the echoes of the Aegean sea. He feels that she is guiding him along the way, and that he will discover the larger significance of the echoing sea. "Greek first flowed on his lips when his eyes swallowed her beauty in slow, measured drops of wonder. Honeyed words sprung and lingered in her beauty's stillness. The words. He remembers the words. Her beauty allowed each word to breathe in his heart, and the sun, sky, and sea all seemed brighter. The mere sight of it allowed him to move through the ancient world to see how it all began. Then her beauty allowed him to see how the ancient world echoed into the modern world. He remembered the first time he saw her. Greek made everything more beautiful. He is speaking it again, waiting for her beauty to become fully formed in his memory. Words flow and reproduce the image of her in his mind, which then produces a fleeting image that shines across his view of the sea. The reckoning of the minutes and the hours occurs in the brief moment when he thinks he has finally allowed time to bring him back to her. But he feels her absence seep into him once more, and the sea shines as brilliantly as it did at the beginning of his mind's secret millennium. A thousand summers have made him relive kiss after kiss, ghostly embrace after ghostly embrace. She always flees from his touch, and his eyes cry out for the mere sight of her. The images come all at once: the infinite blue sea, the unending sparkles of sunlight, the clear open sky, and the steady dissolving of her bright streaming hair into the horizon. A pair of eyes look back, and then the image of her is no more. All that remains is the music of the ocean, which brings his memories to the surface in order to let their light shine unseen. He can only glimpse the obscure wall of memories from a distance. A shadow lingers in the corner of his eye. A beautiful shadow."
