This book tells two stories, both inspired by the TAO TE CHING. In one, two young wisdom seekers, Martin and Sara, lead an idyllic life that is interrupted by a strange bargain with Martin's brother Roger. Martin and Sara are separated, but continue their studies in unusual ways. The other story is an imaginative expansion of the story of Lao Tsu, the author of the TAO TE CHING, beginning with his work as a young scribe and culminating in his sudden departure from running the royal archives. United by commitment to truth and to following the path of wisdom, both stories flow as streams into the larger river of the Tao itself.
