Potions and magic of darkness both torment Harriet's seemingly small world. Magic can do so much and yet she knows so little of it, unlike the people that surround her. It seems as if everybody else has so much knowledge of use of magic while Harriet knows of only her town and her favorite book. Though, after awhile, she learns about something hidden within her own home. In order to find out more about the secrets that surround her and her family, she must leave the safe area that is her home and venture further to discover things she would not have otherwise known.
