The philosophy of terror
Jon-Arild Johannessen Profes
Nietzsche's concept of freedom is the first question we are reflecting upon in this book, because we see freedom as the opposite of terror. The second question we are investigating is the meaning of the freedom of the individual in Nietzsche's philosophy, because if the individual seeks freedom he/she will reject terrorism. The third question discussed is: What constitutes the will to power in Nietzsche's writings? The will to power is strongly related to resentment and function as a social mechanism for terror. The book culminates with the problem related to the understanding of resentment in Nietzsche's writings. We argue that resentment is one of the social mechanisms driving terror. The purpose of the book is to develop aspects of Nietzsche's theory of freedom, resentment and terror. We argue that obedience is the mother of terror, and resentment is the father of terror. Terror is then the unborn and born child of obedience and resentment
