Chemistry Can Kill takes the reader back to Susan's freshman year at Duke University where she meets a handsome young man named Keith, often called Professor Keith. He has an irresistible smile and drives a red Corvette. They share the dream of majoring in chemistry with the hope of helping humanity through their research and development. Susan is a bright, slightly naïve girl who occasionally catches glimpses into the darker side of Keith. During a family crisis in New Mexico, Susan and Keith realize how deeply they love each other. Their relationship seems to grow as Susan overlooks and excuses most of Keith's erratic behavior. Keith is forced to confront two relationships, however, when Luann threatens to reveal a closely held secret. Luann and Keith grew up together, and the bond they share is strong. Professor Keith, unbeknownst to Susan, is involved in the manufacture and sale of an illegal substance. Keith is turning a nice profit with his low-risk business when Raja, Miguel, and Noose enter his life. Keith frantically and diabolically tries to do whatever it takes to stay alive and out of prison. He struggles to balance the Good Keith on his right shoulder with the Evil Keith on his left shoulder.
