Twenty five years after Colonel James Whitlaw is marooned on Embrellon by the Marn, his son Jason and his bond-mate Shandarro, a Skree male, are taken captive and transported to the Marn homeworld. Jason is thrown into the arena where aliens from all parts of the known galaxy are forced to fight duels to the death. the victor gains his freedom. Jason, being taught swordsmanship by his father, the greatest swordsman that Earth had ever produced. Along with his companions, former crewman of Whitlaw's, they steal a ship and flee the Marn homeworld with the most advanced space engine ever built. Executing the Whitlaw Maneuver, they ignite the atmosphere of the Marn homeworld and flee to Embrellon where they have to prepare for the most intense battle ever fought by the Guardians of Embrellon.
