Randolph Carter dreams three times a majestic city at sunset, but each time he abruptly snatched the dream before you see more. As he prays the dream gods to give him around this fantastic city. Not only they do not respond, but the dreams of the city disappear simultaneously. Carter resigned to go to Kadath, the abode of the gods, to plead in person. However nobody has ever seen Kadath and nobody even knows how to get there. In dream, Randolf Carter down the 70 steps of flame caves and talks about his plans to the priests of the temple adjoining the boundaries of the dream world and the waking world. The priests warn Carter of the great dangers he faces.
