Mystery Babylon and the various names given to this great city and the pronouncement of her judgment and demise is of such great importance that it occupies five of the twenty-two chapters in the book of Revelation! The descriptive terms used are not to hide her identity from the 1st century believers or us today. More importantly, neither is John, nor the interpreting angel, playing some game of "hide the city." To the contrary the epistle itself (Revelation) clearly suggests that its purpose is to "reveal," not to "conceal!" Among the several views, as to the identity of "the great city," perhaps the one that stands out in the minds of most believers today is the ancient city of "Rome."
