What would you do if you heard an explosion and later woke up in the basement of your house with everything you own around or on top of you? Crawling out of your basement, you discover your whole neighborhood has turned to firewood and debris. Screaming for help, you realize there is no one else around. Not in your neighborhood. Not in your town. Maybe not even in the world. Using your wits, you do the best you can to survive, until one day you wake and just know there is somewhere you have to be, and there is someone or something you must meet. You leave the relative safety your home and discover there are other survivors of whatever has happened. Maybe they have answers to the questions you have had for months. Little by little, the facts begin to put together a picture of something evil, plotting control of, or worse, the destruction of the human race. Traveling through the Catskill mountains of New York a core of three, two men and a teenage girl, find others who look to join them; a fourth who encountered the evil being and survived to tell others of its existence; a fifth who has the power to foresee the future; then more, until their combined powers begin to fight the evil trying to destroy them. Together they begin to remember that this is not the first time they were summoned to save the world. Which of them survives to complete their task? How can a small group of strangers - normal, unassuming people - band together to try to fight whatever is out there? What powers do they possess, and can they put the world back together again - or will they succumb this time to the evil that waits to control them?
