Noted archaeologist, Exel Brauntz has finally uncovered an artifact of historical importance. Decades of researching the history of the Spanish Florida coast have brought him to the edge of proving his theories correct. However, his painstaking and extensive search to find the truth about a mythical Spanish pirate and conceal the location of an artifact known as 'The Hook of Gaspar' has come to an end with his untimely murder. Or was he murdered? Despite a body, Detective Emily L. Cooper thinks otherwise. The perpetrators have targeted both his research and his artifact. Or was that truly their intended target? Evidence seems to show the archaeologist, unknowingly has something else in his possession of greater value. Brought in to solve the murder, Detectives Cooper and Jacobs find themselves exploring both an ancient and modern day buccaneer. Their investigation takes them back hundreds of years into the lives of pirates and privateers as well as delving into the world of computer languages and cyber espionage. Can the future avoid the past? It would seem highly unlikely.
