The cast of characters involve Eilid Stuart, a tall blond with piercing blue eyes and the only female Deer Stalker in Scotland, Red Ericsson, an ex-Wildcatter who has a rapidly expanding petrochemical company in Houston, and Sir Andrew Ballantyne, the Laird of the Cannich Estate adjacent to the Torridon Estate upon whose land Eilid culls the stag population. Their lives become tragically entangled through the twists of fate a blinding snowstorm creates in the Highlands of Scotland with reverberations all the way to the United States Gulf Coast. In the end, only the illness of a little boy will bring them together to save his life.
