In an old inn, on the banks of the Maumee river, resides a ghost, or so the villagers of Waterville believe. Many have seen glimpses of a dark-beared man in the upstairs windows but no one has ever encountered him for real. Kierra and her sister, Madison need jobs, and their search brings them through a small town, where they stop at a quaint inn for lunch. The owners are an odd British couple who serve only one item daily, and the innkeeper, Lottie is especially excited when Kierra is awed by the history and faded beauty of the inn. There is indeed a secret resident of the inn, not a ghost, but a flesh and blood man; a demanding ruler and they have been serving him for two hundred years. Before Kierra knows what hit her, she is the new owner of the inn and unknowingly, the new caretaker of King Cedric of Winterhaven. After the initial shock of meeting what she thought was a ghost, Kierra finds the king to be in need of more than just food and shelter. She becomes his companion, business partner and protector, and helps him to find the fate of his kingdom, and more importantly, his beloved sister, Constance. Kierra's sometimes boyfriend, Chad smells money, and suddenly he is ready to marry and become co-owner, whether Kierra wants him or not. King Cedric calls him Chad the Bad and dreams of running him through with a sword. Unfortunately, times are different and police frown upon such things, so his majesty must come up with other ways to separate Kierra from her gold-digging boyfriend. What will happen when Chad threatens to expose Cedric? Can Kierra protect her king? What is the future for a man lost in time?
