Your Loving Son
Shirley Cadmus
A collection of letters to home: A tank driver journals his experiences through basic training, as well as through many months of tank and firearm instruction. His vivid and detailed accounts make real the horrors of war. It wasn't until ten years after his death that Robert Cadmus' daughters found, stuffed in a large wooden box, more than three hundred letters he had written to his parents during WWII. Together they worked for about seven years typing, sorting, and archiving the letters. The letters were so intriguing, that the sisters decided to have them published in book form. Also included are articles, letters and first hand interviews by other life long friends from his battalion, photographs of the medals they had had in possession, the campaign map, and more. Cadmus served in the 747 Tank Battalion, Company A, attached to the 29th Infantry. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and served honorably until VJ-Day. This book reads like a first person account of Robert Cadmus' service in the US Army from Boot Camp through Japan's surrender. Reading this collection of letters and interviews will surely take the reader on their own journey through WWII
