Marcus Muller, Optio of the Systems Alliance Legion and adopted son of a former Alliance Senate Chairman, has been hand selected for a diplomatic mission. His role is to ensure the protection of a mysterious member belonging to the secretive organization known only as the Order while she negotiates an end to a long and bloody conflict against the rebellious souls of the Deseret System. But when the mission goes awry, Marcus finds himself separated from his commander and his charge and on a hostile world cut off from friendly forces with only a few men loyal to him. Without a mission to orient himself, he fall back on to the Alliance Prime Objective: end the rebellion and fight the Midgardians who hail from the galactic rim. While executing his mission with newfound abilities, he encounters Deseretian Magic and Midgardian Futhark which are so very similar to the Alliance perception of Power; as well as stumbling across kindred spirits in the most surprising of places. Interwoven amongst all this, he discovers a web of lies and deceit which leaves him not knowing the difference between friend or foe and questioning the familial ties which bind.
