Cries of the Heart Gerald Arthur Buss
Cries of the Heart
Gerald Arthur Buss
Texts and translations [I] The first part of this work consists of a collection of passages from the Greek Old and New Testaments, a collection having the themes of asking, calling and crying out, longing and yearning . . . not for health or wealth, not for getting a job, passing a test, not for relief or even belief, not even for salvation, but for God Himself. God stripped of all His gifts, His consolation and His comfort, His strength and His wisdom. No. None of these, however necessary and needful they may be. None of these. But for God, simple and naked. [II] The second part bears the outpourings of love and desire spanning a period of more than a thousand years. They are the cries and excited utterances of men who experienced an awakening of this longing for God and who afterward devoted their lives, their focus, their attention to "the one thing needful." (from the Preface)
