A serial killer is loose in Salt Lake City. Nurse Elizabeth Newcomb arrives at work on a stormy night and stumbles over a corpse in the hospital parking lot. It's her half-sister, Mary Hennifer. Mary's chest is slashed, a magpie feather stuck inside. Detective Jack Howarth refuses to believe Liz's assertion that Mary's abusive, estranged husband is responsible. Fireworks ensue. Just as they begin to get along and discover they like each other, Ben realizes Liz is next on the killer's hit list. Together, they work to solve the horrible murders, but neither is prepared for the shocking secret they uncover or the deadly consequences that result.
