The Symphony
John Winston Ackerman
An unbreakable bond of friendship is in jeopardy when one boy loses control of himself causing the other two to move through life without their leader. Though he's gone, they still feel his presence and find mysterious clues to his whereabouts - perhaps things are not always what they seem. The Symphony depicts growing up in present day suburbia where the experiences of divorce, abuse, and alienation are seen through the eyes of three boys. The reader is immersed into a journal-style tale of the qualms of relationships growing up in a broken home and troubled social circle, where they soon realize that the only people in this world they can depend on are each other. However, while Anthony wears a courageous mask, the roots of his damaged past break through leaching what little stoicism he has left. While Anthony runs from the truth of his life, Brandon and Adam are left to their own devices, leaving the future of how they will live without Anthony uncertain.
