When things get boring on a hot summer day, Darren Klein, 12, and his buddies seek refuge in the air-conditioned library and learn some interesting facts about Sales, Colorado, the small town they live in. One of those interesting historical facts is that victims of the 1918 influenza pandemic are still buried in an abandoned cemetery just outside of town. Thinking they might find some interesting items from the "olden days" at thedeserted cemetery the boys begin digging, only to discover they have unleashed a deadly epidemic on the town. Is it the 1918 flu revived? Or is it a curse of some kind? The town witch claims to know the answer. But in the meantime, the "cure" for the strange illness that is plaguing Sales seems to be worse than the curse.
