The family surname of Corbett dates back to Andrew Corbett of Aghaloo Parish, County Tyrone in present day Northern Ireland. There are several recorded spellings of the surname including Corbett, Corbet, Corbitt, Carbet, Corbert and Corburt. This Anglo Scottish surname is of Norman-French origins and is derived from the French word "corbet," translated as "Little raven." The current branch of the surname dates to John Andrew Corbett (1812-1880) who left County Tyrone and traveled to Upper Canada in 1831-32. He would later marry Jane Mays and they would have a family of nine children. The family relocated to Garafraxa Township in Wellington County, Ontario. This is the most complete and comprehensive book written to date on this family. Over 40 years of information was researched and now assembled on this family covering 9 generations spanning over two-hundred years. This work included biographies and photographs of Corbett forebears as well as encompassing the present day living descendants. These are the records of our ancestors and it is to their memories that this work is dedicated for all time.
