They are not on the front lines fighting crime like police officers and other law enforcement agencies. Instead, criminologists gather and analyze statistics about crimes and the people who commit them in order to identify patterns of criminal behavior. They teach criminology classes to University, College, and Polytechnic students who are pursuing degrees, postgraduate diploma and master's degree in subjects like criminology, sociology, psychology and criminal justice. Therefore, professors often divide their time between teaching, conducting their own academic research and publishing books, monographs, and journals.
