Wander Woman Carman Cunningham
Wander Woman
Carman Cunningham
Though not exactly a "striped pants cookie pusher," Carman Cunningham did indeed serve her country as a Foreign Service Officer in Latin America, Africa, Europe, the antipodes and Eurasia. This memoir follows her career and her life, before and after the Foreign Service, and recounts visits to prisons, morgues, and hospitals assisting US citizens; the story of a murder in her vault using her office scissors; and some comic and absurd cross-cultural incidents during an always intriguing, and sometimes even glamorous, forty years. Carman also participated in the administration of immigration law and has some strong opinions about US visa policy. This is a positive view of the Department of State as it was, its goals and objectives, but Wander Woman explores a way of life that has changed radically in her lifetime, and not much for the better.
