Randy (short for Randle) is a misfit candle made in a factory in Paris, the City of Lights. Because he doesn't look like the other candles in his batch, he is labeled "imperfect" and is placed on a shelf all alone.

While cleaning out the back room, Luken, a factory worker, sees Randy and decides to take him home. It is here where a special friendship forms between Randy and Candy, a beautiful red-and-white-striped holiday candle.

Randy and Candy quickly become best friends, spending hours talking about their hopes and dreams. Randy is sad and is afraid that no one will ever give him a chance to share his light, but Candy encourages him and says, "Don't be sad, Randy! You're a special candle, and soon everyone will see your light shine!" They both promise to be there for each other no matter what happens.
