As a matter of fact the gospels are no less marvellous for what they omit than for what they say. Here in the records by the four evangelists is found the most interesting and thrilling account of the grandest and most dramatic life this world ever has known, three years of which were crowded with almost unexampled activities. And yet the narrative is written with such remarkable and hoice selection of materials and also with such ease and brevity that without weariness, though it contains a whole system of theology, one can read it at a single sitting. Is there not here, therefore, ample illustration of what has been called inspiration by superintendence and likewise proof of it sufficient to satisfy any unprejudiced mind ?Did our time limitations permit and did the object intended in these addresses call for additional evidence of the point before us it easily could be gathered from the Acts of the Apostles, from the Epistles and from the Apocalypse. We venture, therefore, to close the argument at this point feeling quite sure that additional evidence will not be called for except by someone whom any amount of evidence would fail to satisfy. The point reached would, therefore, seem to justify the conclusion that the Bible is God-made and made by inspired men to this extent that everything was excluded from it, except what God intended should be recorded, and orthodoxy does not hesitate to say that this conclusion will be more and more firmly established as the years go by, and will be acknowledged among men long after the din of modern adverse criticism has ceased to be heard.
