The Gogen puzzle has behind it a deceptively simple concept yet, with so many variants, each with their own characteristics, this a very interesting puzzle to do. The short of it is that you have a square, twenty five cell board and each cell carries a different letter of the alphabet, from A to Y. Some of the letters are given away to you as clues and in order to locate the remaining letters, you have a series of words that go one cell at a time vertically, horizontally and diagonally forwards or backwards. The puzzles that you find in the newspapers only take a few minutes to complete so you will not find them here. The UberGogen has the same clue cell arrangement of nine cells as the newspaper puzzles but not all of the letters are defined. The UltraGogen has fewer clue cells but all of the letters are defined. Both of these types have real words as word clues although some people, who do not play a lot of word games, might find some of them a little obscure. The HyperGogen uses word strings that are only ever real words accidentally. The clue cells are chosen at random except that they cannot be next to each other on the board. The HyperGogen+ also has within it a hidden word of at least nine letters for you to find. The GoldenGogen is like the HyperGogen+ except that now, the clue cells can be right next to each other and the network of letters on the board is designed by hand. Additionally, the GoldenGogen can have boards with only one clue cell on it. This can lead to a more interesting game although it is arguably easier than the HyperGogen+ because there is an element of human design there. This book has 10 puzzles of each type and the page size is half an inch smaller each way than the other books so that it will fit into your pocket that bit easier. Have Fun.
