An empire that has stood for nearly ten thousand years falls. In its fall are left behind the fractured fragments of various kingdoms struggling to survive and rise again.



Fast-forward, a few centuries after the fall and the last heir of the imperial throne dies quietly in obscurity as a minor nobleman in one of these kingdoms. One of his twin sons mysteriously goes missing.



Fast-forward yet again, this time, the kingdom is now dying out. Its new king and coruler are struggling to come to grips with the mysteries left behind by the death of the previous king in his final year, as well as the intrigue brewing within the court, an intrigue they are distracted from by a stranger's sudden arrival in their midst. Who is he? And why does the most hated man in the kingdom have an interest in him?
