This edition is produced in Black and White, but there is also an edition with color maps and photos (ISBN 9781708925659). The village of Doña Ana was the first permanent European settlement in the southern half of the Territory of New Mexico. It was founded while the region was still part of Mexico and experienced strong influences of Spanish culture and was claimed by the Republic of Texas after Texas won its independence from Mexico in 1836. The USA gained control of the region in 1848 as a result of the War between Mexico and the USA. Doña Ana lays along the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro and was an important stopping place on the way to Santa Fe when it was initially settled. This book traces the roots of the village situated in one of the most fertile areas in all of the present state of New Mexico.
