The Colonial Chronicles is a series of American Colonial historical fiction, offering a panorama of characters and events chronicling the establishment of the Thirteen Original Colonies. Spanning a century and a half, the series opens with the loss of the Roanoke Colony, and concludes shortly after the founding of the Georgia Colony in 1732. Part Six addresses the spreading colonial world as England remains embroiled its civil wars after the regicide of King Charles I. Increasingly, the colonies become obvious sources of much-needed funds for the English treasury, and new laws damage international shipping and trade, forcing the colonies to amend their trading practices. Oliver Cromwell becomes Lord Protector, ultimately ruling without a Parliament after subjugating Scotland and spreading ethnic cleansing in Ireland. Meanwhile, the First Anglo-Dutch War disrupts harmony between the English and Dutch colonies in North America. While Peter Stuyvesant subdues the only Swedish colony in the New World, the Plascomb and Voorsten families continue to expand their business empires. Intercolonial differences rupture as Quakers come to North America seeking their religious freedom, resulting in increasing levels of legal and religious intolerance in numerous colonies. Meanwhile, the second generation of New England settlers reject previously-held, central, Puritan values as the first generation begins passing into eternity.
