Wendy M. Smith
Section 9 of the Academy's Basic and Clinical Science Course™ (BCSC®) begins with an overview of immune-mediated eye disease, summarizing basic immunologic concepts, ocular immune responses, and special topics in ocular immunology. BCSC Section 9 covers diagnostic considerations, therapies, and complications for uveitis. This volume reviews noninfectious (autoimmune) and infectious forms of uveitis.
A table summarizes selected systemic immunomodulatory medications used to treat noninfectious uveitis. Additionally, a discussion on nonbacterial causes of infectious uveitis includes a subsection on SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. Other topics in Section 9 include scleritis, ocular involvement in HIV infection/AIDS, endophthalmitis, and masquerade syndromes.
Posterior uveitis and panuveitis are spread into two chapters to make the content more manageable. In addition, a second appendix about antimicrobial agents for intraocular injection is included. Photos, Clinical Pearl boxes, and other sidebars appear throughout the book, presenting information that can be quickly applied to clinical practice.
Increase your understanding with seven videos and one interactive activity.
