There Was Life in the Death of My Addiction
Bennie Alston
Codependency kills. It sacrifices the mind, body and soul of one for the "love" of another. Codependency destroys one's intrapersonal relationship (the relationship with self). It manifests as an emotional stronghold that feeds on the self-esteem of those who look to others for self-validation. Referred to as a "love" addiction, the relationship centers around enabling the destructive behaviors of an addict. Codependency is an unhealthy coping mechanism that is found in the family relationship. In personal relationships it manifests as an unhealthy dependence on a loved one. While this dependence satiates their sensual desires and needs, it creates an emotional void that stifles their own personal growth. In this book, I share my very personal story.
