Stand Your Ground
Richard Merrett
In the 1980's correction officers in the state of Massachusetts did not feel that they were being well represented by their national union known as A. F. S. C. M. E.. In a daring move, a courageous group of officers did the unthinkable and launched an initiative to create their own independent union. Officer Richard Merrett was one of the group's leading figures. What followed was a tumultuous, and at times, down right frightening campaign filled with roadblocks laid before them by a powerful and national union that did everything they could to stymie their efforts. Come along for the roller coaster ride that became the author's life as he strived to find justice for his fellow officers while wrestling with an inner demon that began to wreak havoc upon his life known as vision loss.
