While visiting William Faulkner's Rowan Oak, an author encounters restless souls who task him with sharing their stories to advance them toward the light. After boarding a dilapidated train at Meridian's Royal Land, the young writer travels along the mystical railway and release the imprisoned magnolias through a collection of Mississippi ghost tales based in Waynesboro, Oxford, Meridian, Hattiesburg, Palmers Crossing, Lamar County, Wiggins, Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Laurel, Hot Coffee, Natchez, Yazoo City, Clarksdale, Rolling Fork, Cleveland, Indianola, Jackson, and Parchman. He aims to transcend the wandering spirits to their celestial eternity by the time the supernatural locomotive arrives in the abandoned, ghost town of Rodney.
