Flowers for the Bees, Paul Haston's latest book for adults, is a tale of lost love set against the bloody backdrop of Indian independence from Britain in 1947. Kuljit buries her infant daughter in the Ganges mud flats, hoping that the stain of the murder can be removed, whilst a few miles away (although it may as well be a thousand) Gwendolen makes love to her upper-class fool of a husband, the British Consul, all the time thinking of the Indian maid with the tiger claw mark on her neck.
