They'll Promise You the Moon is a novel of a family's progress over one hundred years. Four generations endure the burdens of alcoholism, poverty, sexual repression, stymied education and mental illness but emerge in recovery and new possibilities for the next century. The Daigle/Pemburton family consists of the matriarch, Nell, her husband Augie, their two children, May and Sonny, May's husband Charlie and their twins, Helen and Chuck. Their journey, told in first and third person narratives, letters and memorabilia, is a twentieth century survival story that resists structures of self, relationship, sexuality and vocation, embracing freer, healthier forms in the new century.
