A lonely prospector exploring the Australian Outback discovers the Viking Lander in the middle of the Nullarbor Plain. It is a perfect setting for the Lander. The desert looks remarkably like the surface of Mars. The Lander wakes upon the encounter and takes the man, his dog, his horse, and his pony off-world to Mars where they discover a planet gripped in a secret war against the Earth.
