The book presents Chinese folk stories of Four Great Chinese Beauties (????), namely Xi Shi, Wang Zhaojun, Diaochan, and Yang Guifei. These four women have left a remarkable impact in Chinese history not only for their beauties, but also for their great personalities and interesting real life adventures. Although these four women existed years apart, their life stories often revolved around influencing emperors and kings. In some cases, these women brought the empires, kingdoms, even dynasties, to their knees. Unfortunately, for most of the Four Great Chinese Beauties, however, their lives ended in tragedy or mystery. The book presents their important life events in the story form. The current volume is the seventh book in the Mandarin Chinese Reading Series. The volume, made of about 700 characters, would be suitable for the lower intermediate to advanced level Chinese language learners (HSK 1-6). Overall, the initial volumes in the Graded Reader Series books are the elementary level books (Level 1) to practice Mandarin Chinese reading fast.
