Black teen 'boy' Calvin has always known she was different and been treated horribly by so many her whole life, including by her father whose abuse tormented her. Many thought Calvin gay or queer or just 'not right' but she comes to realize that her truth is she is a female, born into a male's body and that her whole life living as a boy has been a lie. Despite the fear of how much worse things might become for her, she goes to school in her sister's clothes, wanting to live her truth but this brings about a disaster that rocks the whole town.
