Eri wants to be a Ninja warrior when she grows up. This upsets Eri's grandmother, Sato Akino, because she feels modern depictions of Ninja are a violent and disrespectful representation of the ancient and selfless Shinobi warriors of Japan's past. Because she loves Eri very much, Akino tells her headstrong and impulsive granddaughter a tale of a brave princess named Hiku, and a Shinobi spy named Akari, who protects her life and the life of her Emperor father from the villainous Daiki, a general who seeks to rule Japan ruthlessly. Eri enjoys her grandmother's story so much that she begins to change her behaviors in order to mirror the ancient Shinobi. As she does, she begins to uncover a secret being kept from her by her own family.
