The Cry of Ishmael is an inspiration from the story of Father Abraham's first son in book of Genesis. In Genesis 16-19, 21 we see how Ishmael was born via an Egyptian slave called Hagar and how she was sent away with her boy after the child - Ishmael was 14 years old. Tope was not a slave but is often forgotten. She barely talks and loves her mother. I saw similarities between her and Ishmael hence the title of this book.
