Cubah, a woman who lives in London, attends a loved one's funeral in Kingston, Jamaica. While there, she meets a Freedom Fighter who takes her on a journey that introduces her to her own Sankofa, a West African belief system (the review of one's past to gain strength and wisdom to tackle the future) practiced by her ancestors. The story is set in Vineyard Town, Kingston 3, Cubah's hometown. Her encounter with the Windward Maroons (18th century Freedom Fighters) allow her to 'find' herself, through a gamut of 'real life' characters and events that span the days of the Tainos, Christopher Columbus' erroneous landing on the island (he thought he had landed in Western India), reggae music and legendary international reggae artists, the breakdown of relationships between governors, settlers and the British Crown, settlers and the London based, House of Commons, to the heartwarming inauguration of Barak Obama in January 2009. This text, first scribed upon the death of the author's father in 1992, later copyrighted in 2007, is more relevant to the 'black' experience today than ever before. The characters portray life in Jamaica and the UK, as it was then, and is now. All of the characters and their experiences represent TIME PAST, TIME PRESENT AND TIME FUTURE.
