And The Saints Wept is set 12th century England, during the civil war between King Stephen and the Empress Maud. It tells the tale of a young mercenary turned minstrel. He finds an unconscious little girl in a ditch and raises her as his sister. Together, they travel the length and breadth of England. Along the way, they encounter rogues, villains, merchants, knights, monks, nuns, an Abbott, a Bishop and a King. Eventually, they attain their hearts' desires.
