Can Kshayarsha (Xerxes), destined to rule most of the world, afford to love, and can his passion survive the wrath of the Empire? This is the main intrigue of the multi-volume historical series "And God Requireth That Which is Past". The zest of this novel is that it tells us a true story ... or as much true as time and space, separating us from that era, allow us to see. Closely based on the primary Greco-Roman and Persian sources as well as the latest archeological research and the Bible, the narrative mainly relies on verified facts, so when you meet a slave or a rich merchant or a wet nurse of the princes, be assured that they were real people. But what about love? Can we, through the callous records of the chronicler, unravel the amorous secrets of the ancient world? I bet we can! And the presented work has done exactly that. The romantic relationship of the two main characters, Mzysia, the spirited daughter of the Svan chief, and Kshayarsha (Xerxes), the fierce ruler of the Persian Empire, is used as the foremost fabula of the novel, although the mighty king's many other affairs will also stir up the reader's imagination. This project is huge. It features 50 main and 400 secondary characters, all of them thoroughly researched. Geographically it covers the whole existing world of that time. The story starts in 503 BCE in the middle of Darius I reign, continues through Xerxes I entire time in power and ends in the fifth year of Artaxerxes I sovereignty in 460 BCE. The first installment of the series "The Invincible Empire" tells the beginning of two bright young faces: Mzysia and Kshayarsha, water and fire. How can these two antagonistic elements possibly become one whole? This dilemma is the drive of this tale.
