The Gards

After a judicious departure from Stockholm, Betea and Varg are on foot, paralleling a fjord, viewing a grumbling ocean from a high peak and reminiscing about journeys that are intricately related to brilliant, abundant rainbows. Curiously, neither can remember significant facets of the treks, although they appear to be recent, merely a few days ago. There are time gaps, textured spaces where sensations of implausible trials transpire, where detached events remain in the abstract, more like a dream forgotten. While each remains skeptical about this elapsed past, their companion is always present in the dreams; they feel comfortable, safe with each other and their friendship. Their last vibrant memory is of the ill-fated voyage of the Viking longship, Trag. The recall of the presence of friends, Sig and Qu'in, on the Trag evokes a dichotomy of reflections, those that exhilarate fond recollections and those that fashion questions. Wedged in an interlude are the mysterious fates of Sig and Qu'in; these cherished traveling companions succeeded in evaporating without a clue or hint.
