Nick, a hit man on the run from his former boss, needs to get out of town fast, so when a mysterious millionaire hires him for one last job, he points his battered Chevy west and heads for the California coast. En route, with sinister forces at his heels, Nick's fate entwines with wiseguys and bikers, Amish strippers and sadistic plastic surgeons, grunge guitarists and teenage runaways, as his odyssey takes him from the mean streets of Brooklyn to an underground Chicago S& M club to the Badlands of South Dakota, to a horrific climax at the compound of a millennial cult. Nick realizes that - if he's going to make it out alive - he'll have to face the demons of his own past.
