If one has not contemplated or considered suicide in their life, one has no point of reference in which to frame a way to understand or help those that are suicidal. Such a difficult thing to quantify; the pain of life and wanting to kill oneself in order to escape the deep and traumatic pain we suffer. The pain is all-consuming. There are no adjectives to describe how one sinks so low into despair. The only thing that makes sense is to end oneself, to end the pain forever. I can tell you; it is a whole body, soul and mind darkness and there is pain in every fiber of your being, an overwhelming pain. All one wants to do is stop existing. I have prayed to die in my sleep on many occasions. If through my experiences I can help save the life of one person, I will have succeeded at what I believe is my life's goal. If you have suicidal thoughts or ideation, please know you are not alone, and believe me when I say, it does get better. We can retrain our neural pathways with neuroplasticity, we can unlearn old behaviors and replace them with new thought patterns. You can do this. You will need time and patience, but you can do this. Be kind to yourself.
