There are a lot of branch offices out there but not a lot written about how to start one, how to set it up, how to staff it or incentivize it or how to make it profitable. If you have branch offices that are doing great, then you, or at least your branch managers, are doing things right. But, you may have some offices that aren't doing so well. Or, maybe you have yet to open your first branch. Or, you have opened an office or two and they haven't done well and they are now just a vague but painful memory. Or, maybe you are contemplating the opening of your first branch office. We are going to talk about Why we even want to open an office. Then, we'll discuss, risk, and quality control and selling work and doing work. And, most of all we're going to consider who to run your branch office and even, some thoughts on where to locate one. You will likely not agree with a lot of what is proposed. That's ok. But, I contend, that the more of this advice you take, the more successful your branches will be. This book will give you some insights into lots of do's and don'ts regarding opening and running a branch office. It is written for CEO's and COO's and those contemplating being a branch office manager. It's also written for those who have had failures in opening an office but have not given up. It's written for sole-proprietors, partners, corporations and ESOP's as well as for real small companies and very large companies - the thoughts are pretty much the same.
