Two weeks from my 18th birthday and I had been into 'nice' bands for all of my life. The most rebellious thing I had ever done was put a poster of Adam Ant on my bedroom wall. I'd been raised to believe that being 'nice' was the way forward. Foul language, burping, farting, and being scruffy would get me nowhere. But being 'nice' was very boring. And then came The Macc Lads. This frustrating world had now been lit up brightly by a trio of crass musicians from the north of England. They were my heroes, mainly for their complete lack of inhibitions. From 1988 to 1994. Following them on tour and eventually getting backstage and helping out at gigs. Violence at concerts, silly practical jokes, elaborate wind ups and the legendary roadie that was Sandbach.
