Talking merely consist of using your native language (or any language you have learned) to express yourself, with words. You can talk, even if no one is listening. However, communication requires engagement between two or more persons, who genuinely want to hear what each other is saying. You are on point if you believe "watching your mouth" is one of the greatest lessons for one to wrap their brain around. Especially, when someone says some harsh, untrue, things about you. You finally got it! The onus is on you for what you say about another person. You are not on the hook for what they say about you. Yes! Yes! Yes! You are held accountable for the words that flow out of your mouth, through your lips. Often times, the reply or the response has to be tempered before it leaves your lips. It can be easy to chime in on what someone is saying about someone else. Be mindful that this person is speaking about someone else right now. It could very well be you they are speaking to another person about, just as easy. Words that are spoken to others, out of your mouth, through your lips, can be quite painful and life altering. Word that are spoken to other, out of your mouth, through your lips can be quite pleasant and healing to the person's spirit upon which they land. The context, the tone, and the intentionality with which we express ourselves can be positive and uplifting or negative and degrading. If this was an easy task, there would be no need for you and each of us to be reminded of how to treat others throughout scripture. It is not easy. It is necessary! It is necessary for the peace of God to reside within you, that you will need going forward on life's journey.
