You may have observed, as I have, that over the course of our lifetimes, mankind has increasingly devised ways to defraud one another, to cheat the system, to wring out of a transaction more than they are due, and to find all loopholes that give them an unfair advantage. This book is a clarion call to acknowledge the downward trend towards dishonesty-choosing the "low road", and instead to choose the high road-the way of integrity and virtue. Failure to do so will undoubtedly prove our nation's downfall. On the other hand, to choose a higher way will give us enabling and sustaining power-to become a happier, more prosperous, and more beneficial society. To accomplish this we must, in the words of Stephen R. Covey, "think win-win". "Back Away From the Precipice" is intended to help us recognize the warning signals, as from a lighthouse on a cliff, to help us avoid the jagged rocks and shoals, to help us sail in calmer seas and arrive safely on blissful shores.
