The World Lives On Hope
Tatham Langton
Set in England in 1999. It is the story of two young people on the cusp of self discovery, who despite coming from separate and very different worlds share a commonality, which leads to a sometimes confusing, but deep and trusting friendship. Ismail is a sixteen year old orphaned, Tajik Afghan boy working illegally as part of an agricultural gang. Sue is a white, English, extremely bright but socially awkward fifteen year old girl battling her way through the maze of life. After months of clandestine meetings, Ismail and Sue's unexpected and uncertain feelings for each other are finally revealed when events take a dramatic and violent turn. Accused of Sue's abduction then murder, Ismail's only chance of survival is to keep running. But as the sole keeper of the truth what should Sue do? With the media and police snapping at their heels and baying for blood Ismail and Sue's friendship is tested to its limits, challenging their individual beliefs and hopes, and threatening to separate their worlds forever.
