JAMES DONOHOE Selected Poems & Stories
Brian McAuliffe
My grandfather, James (Jim) Donohoe, was a Garda in Ireland's police force, An Garda Síochána, from its inception in 1922 up to his retirement after almost 36 years exemplary service in 1958. Though a native of Ballymahon in Co. Longford, he spent all his adult life in Co. Donegal, based at Garda stations in Ardara, Pettigo, Rathmullan, and Lifford. During this time Jim wrote many poems and stories, a lot of which were published in the Garda Review magazine. This book is a compilation of a selection of these, together with some previously unpublished poems and stories that have been held in our family since Jim died in 1980. All proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the charity 'Brighter Communities Worldwide'. Originally founded as 'Friends of Londiani in 2002', Brighter Communities Worldwide works in partnership with communities to deliver programmes that enrich lives and help create better futures for all living in those communities.
